Mercedes A180 with 1.6T petrol engine

The Mercedes A180 with the 1.6 Turbo engine (MED17.7.2) is a seemingly quiet unit with a factory power of 122 HP , but with great potential hidden in the software.
Our experience shows that these engines often deliver even more power than the manufacturer declares – and after precise tuning, they can surprise with their flexibility and smooth operation.


ECU modification process – HP Tuners + log analysis

During implementation, we carried out a detailed log analysis using HP Tuners , which allowed us to precisely adjust the engine operating parameters.
As part of the modification, we performed:

  • ⚙️ Optimization of the boost pressure , which improved flexibility in the mid-range of revs,

  • 🧩 Adjustment of torque limiters , while maintaining a safety margin for the clutch and gearbox,

  • 🔥 Improved combustion efficiency – better AFR and lower EGT at higher loads,

  • 💻 Calibration of ignition and torque maps , ensuring smooth gains without jerks and overloads.

The Bosch MED17.7.2 control unit was read in OBD mode and all changes were tested on Dynomax / Dynomet dynamometers.

Result?
The car has become much more responsive and dynamic, while retaining its factory-like smoothness and refinement .
The increase in torque in the mid-range gives significantly better acceleration without the need to downshift, and fuel consumption does not increase when driving calmly.


Why our approach to MED17.7.2 is unique

Bosch MED17.7.2 controllers are very advanced units – they do not tolerate “shortcut tuning”.
We don't work on percentages - each car undergoes HP Tuners log analysis and dyno tests before the final Stage 1 file is created.

Thanks to this:

  • 🔧 performance is stable and repeatable,

  • 🔥 EGT maintained within safe limits,

  • ⚙️ gearbox and clutch operate within acceptable limits.
