Chiptuning Alfa Romeo 159 2.0 JTDm – Stage 1 – 200 KM / 455 Nm

Chip tuning Alfa Romeo 159 2.0 JTDm – Stage 1 – 200 HP / 455 Nm

This time, an Alfa Romeo 159 with a 2.0 JTDm engine appeared in our workshop.
The goal was simple – to maximize the potential of diesel power while maintaining full reliability of the unit.
After individually tuning the ECU in the Stage 1 version, we achieved 200 HP and 455 Nm – i.e. power and torque that significantly improve the car's flexibility without compromise in everyday use.

Customer's car - initial state

  • Model: Alfa Romeo 159 2.0 JTDm

  • Engine: 2.0 JTDm (170 HP / 350 Nm standard)

  • ECU: Bosch EDC16C39

    0281017783

    51892681

    515032

  • Drive / gearbox: manual, FWD

  • Technical condition: no errors in the ECU, intake and EGR systems fully functional

  • Customer goal: better throttle response, flexibility when overtaking and dynamic driving on the road

Modification process – reading, analysis, tuning

Before starting the work, we performed full computer diagnostics and dynamic logs.
The Bosch EDC16C39 ECU was read via OBD and then we analyzed the torque maps, fuel doses, boost pressures and torque limits.

We then prepared a Stage 1 file based on real data from the Dynomax and Dynomet dynamometers, tailored to the specific engine model.
The modification included:

  • optimization of torque and boost pressure maps,

  • adjusting fuel doses for smoother operation in the mid-range rev range,

  • safe torque and exhaust gas limits (EGT < 830 °C),

  • maintaining full DPF and EGR functionality.

The entire file processing process took about 30–40 minutes .

The end result – increased power and torque

Parameter In series After modification Increase
Power (hp) 170 hp 200 hp +30 hp
Torque (Nm) 350 Nm 455 Nm +105 Nm

The JTDm engine has gained character after tuning – torque available from 1,750 rpm makes the car respond instantly to the gas pedal and maintains smooth acceleration even in higher gears.
In everyday driving, the difference is felt immediately, while maintaining fuel consumption at a level close to that of the standard model.

FAQ – frequently asked questions

Is Stage 1 in the Alfa 159 safe for the 2.0 JTDm engine?
Yes. Our maps don't exceed safe limits for the turbocharger or injection. We obtain gains based on dyno measurements, not by eye.

Will fuel consumption change after modification?
When driving calmly, fuel consumption can be reduced by 0.3–0.5 l/100 km thanks to greater torque at lower revs.

Does the DPF remain active after tuning?
Yes – in this implementation, the DPF and EGR remain active. We do not disable any systems unnecessarily.

Can I order a ready file for EDC16C39 ECU?
Yes, files for Alfa Romeo 159 2.0 JTDm are available in our database for tuners – completion in 30-40 minutes.
