BMW E46 Stage2 M57 330D
Share
The iconic BMW E46 330D with the M57 204 HP Euro 3 engine is a base that is ideal for powerful, but still safe modifications.
This unit has been comprehensively mechanically prepared – allowing for the development of a fully customised Stage 2 calibration .
Vehicle Specifications and Modifications
| Modification | Scope of work |
|---|---|
| 💨 Injections | 216 – higher flow and fuel reserve |
| ❄️ Intercooler | FMIC – charge air cooling improvement |
| 🔊 Exhaust system | Custom – less back pressure |
| 🌀 Turbo | Hybrid compressor, 1.7 bar boost pressure |
| ❌ EGR OFF | Deactivating the exhaust gas recirculation valve |
| ⚙️ ECU tuning | Stage 2 – proprietary Bosch EDC16C31 ECU calibration |

Final results after modification
Based on measurements from the Dynomax / Dynomet dynamometer and log analysis, we achieved a stable, safe increase in power and torque:
| Parameter | In series | After Stage 2 | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power (hp) | 204 hp | 304 hp | +100 hp |
| Torque (Nm) | 410 Nm | 610 Nm | +200 Nm |
After modification, the engine maintains a linear increase in power, without sudden pressure peaks and excessive smoke.
Increased boost (1.7 bar) allowed the full potential of the hybrid turbocharger and modified 216 injectors to be exploited.
ECU tuning process – EDC16C31
The Bosch EDC16C31 controller is a well-known platform in M57 engines – very stable and offering extensive calibration possibilities.
In this project we did:
-
🔍 Initial diagnostics and log analysis – boost pressure, AFR, EGT, injection corrections.
-
💻 ECU reading in bench mode.
-
⚙️ Proprietary software processing – individual calibration of torque, fuel, pressure and SOI.
-
📈 Power and torque measurement on Dynomax / Dynomet dynamometers.
-
🧩 Control of exhaust gas temperatures and turbo stability after modification.
Each stage was performed within EGT and boost safety limits to ensure the unit's durability and smooth running.
Effects in practice
-
⚡ Significantly stronger midrange and upper rev range,
-
🧭 Better throttle response and no turbo lag,
-
💨 Stable 1.7 bar boost without overload,
-
🔧 High work culture and no OBD errors,
-
⛽ It is possible to maintain economy while driving calmly.
This is a project that shows how mechanical preparation and precise calibration of ECU software can take classic 3.0D to a completely new level.
For tuners and workshops – EDC16C31 file processing
We offer professional ECU file processing for tuners and workshops, based on real measurements and experience with M57 engines:
-
💾 Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Custom files for EDC16C31,
-
⚙️ Calibration for specific mechanical modifications (FMIC, turbo, exhaust, EGR OFF),
-
🧠 Log analysis and individual corrections,
-
⏱️ Implementation: 30–40 minutes ,
-
📊 Tests: Dynomax / Dynomet .
Each file is processed manually , based on log data and charts – without the use of ready-made drivers or universal presets.
