What exactly does a dyno graph show, and what changes can chip tuning make to your car? For most non-technical people, dyno graphs can seem complicated. This step-by-step guide will explain how to understand them and how tuning your car can benefit you.

Key Elements of Dyno Charts

1. Car power (HP)

Power, measured in horsepower (hp), represents the actual amount of energy transferred to your car's wheels. You'll find it on the left-hand vertical axis of the graph . Most dynos illustrate power with a red line. This value shows how efficiently your vehicle utilizes engine power depending on engine speed.

2. Torque (Nm)

Torque, measured in Newton meters (Nm), quantifies the force generated by the drivetrain. It appears on the vertical axis on the right side of the graph . It is usually represented by a blue line. Torque is particularly important during acceleration and when driving with a heavier load (towing a vehicle, climbing a hill).

3. Engine Speed ​​(RPM)

The bottom horizontal axis of the graph shows engine speed, measured in RPM (revolutions per minute). This illustrates how power and torque vary with engine speed. How does this make sense? For example, a petrol engine generating 215 hp at 5850 rpm produces 143 hp at 3000 rpm.
