What are Damos, A2L, and Functional Calibration Sheets?

When working with engine control units (ECUs), three types of files play an extremely important role: DAMOS , A2L , and function sheets ( mappacks ). Each of these files performs a specific function and is often used together to enable precise and safe ECU calibration.

DAMOS files

  • Developed by the ECU manufacturer

  • They contain detailed information about parameters, maps and tables in the controller

  • They contain memory addresses, conversion factors, scalings, and data types.

DAMOS is a format used primarily in the automotive industry. It allows for familiarization with ECU functions in a way that a tuner can understand.

Function Sheets (Mappack / Function Sheet / XDF)

  • They present ECU data in a simplified, easy-to-read tabular format.

  • They contain:

    • Parameter names and descriptions

    • Memory addresses

    • Data types and sizes

    • Conversion factors, offsets, minimum and maximum values

    • Default values
