BMW Serii 1 116d – przyrost mocy ponad 50%!

BMW 1 Series 116d – power increase of over 50%!

The BMW 1 Series (F20/F21) with the 2.0 N47 engine in the 116d version is one of the most "choked" engines in the BMW range.
Power is factory-limited to around 120 HP , although mechanically it is identical to the more powerful 118d and 120d versions.
Thanks to individual tuning of the Bosch EDC17C56 controller software, its full potential was unleashed.

N47 Engine – The Potential Hidden in Software

The 116d, 118d and 120d versions use the same N47D20 drive unit, differing only in software and minor hardware elements.
Therefore, a well-executed Stage 1 modification allows for achieving parameters similar to, or even better than, the higher varieties, without any mechanical intervention.

Stage 1 Mod Effects

Parameter In series After modification Increase
Power (hp) 120 hp 187.8 hp +67.8 hp
Torque (Nm) 294 Nm 428 Nm +134 Nm

A power increase of over 50% allowed the 116d to jump to the level of the factory 120d – while maintaining factory durability and full temperature control.

After modification the car:

  • ⚡ reacts much faster to gas,

  • 🚗 is flexible from 1600 rpm,

  • 🧭 maintains stable power characteristics up to the section,

  • 💨 accelerates linearly, without excessive smoking.

ECU Modification Process – EDC17C56

The Bosch EDC17C56 controller in N47 engines is one of the most refined BMW platforms – it offers extensive calibration options, but requires high precision.

The scope of work included:

  1. 💻 ECU reading using the bench method,

  2. 🔍 log analysis (boost, rail pressure, EGT, injection corrections),

  3. ⚙️ development of proprietary ECU calibration adapted to the 116d version,

  4. 📈 power and torque measurement on the Dynomax / Dynomet dynamometer,

  5. 🧠 validation of safety parameters (EGT, AFR, torque limits).

Each parameter was tuned based on actual data, not predefined tables – the file was prepared individually for the ECU software of a specific unit .

Effects in everyday driving

  • 🚀 noticeable difference after the first press of the gas pedal,

  • ⚙️ smooth operation without jerking,

  • 🧭 high torque throughout the entire rev range,

  • 🔧 no DTC errors and full OBD diagnostics maintained,

  • ⛽ when driving calmly, fuel consumption is up to 0.5–0.7 l/100 km lower than in the series.

The modified version retains full operational refinement and durability, while offering performance at the level of the BMW 120d .

For tuners and workshops – EDC17C56 (N47) file processing

For cooperating workshops and tuners, we offer professional processing of ECU EDC17C56 files for N47 / N47N engines:

  • 💾 Stage 1 / Stage 2 / ECO / DPF OFF / EGR OFF ,

  • ⚙️ Individual calibration for a specific SW/HW ,

  • 🧠 Log analysis and map corrections on request ,

  • ⏱️ Completion time: 30–40 minutes ,

  • 📊 Dynomax / Dynomet dynamometer tests .

We prepare each file manually , without ready-made drivers – based on real measurement data and experience with N47 engines.
